The Fire, part 2 – Zola gets the newsI was away on a buying trip in Northern California when the calls started coming in. The world of cell phones is very strange when you are 5,000 miles away. People started calling offering to help and I hadn't even had a call from my staff yet! Midnight Sun was a community place. The fire devastated not only a building; it left a gaping hole in our collective hearts. But, as community does best in times of hardship, people's generosity and caring shone like a beacon in a dark time. Good friends got together and organized a celebration "Zola, Lightly Roasted". Amazing support came from many community members, businesses, and artists to not only raise money that would help in the immediate crisis, but to show their appreciation for all the Midnight Sun was to them. It was an interesting lesson for me. After years of giving to the community, I was in a position where I had nothing, and had to just receive. Not as easy as it sounds!! A heartfelt and huge thanks to all those that organized, participated, donated and attended that celebration.
